“When Jesus Prays”
If you ask most Christians what Jesus’ most famous prayer is, they will probably refer to the “Lord’s Prayer” (also known as the “Our Father). However, when we read the Lord’s Prayer in context we realize that it is response to the disciples asking how to pray and it is given as a template of prayer rather than an example of Jesus’ personal prayers(Luke 11:1-4). The Lord’s prayer is amazing and is such a helpful guide for us on how to pray and connect with God. However, if you really want to hear how Jesus talked to His father in prayer, read John 17. This is Jesus’ actual prayer and it is personal, passionate and precise. We see the same principles of “The Lord’s Prayer” in “Jesus’ Prayer” but it is a fuller example of the intimate conversation that prayer is designed to be. This Sunday, we’ll look at this prayer together as we discover what happens “When Jesus Prays”.
