“Contradicting the Contradiction”
Do you ever make a commitment to do something and find that not only do you not do what you intended to do, but you do the opposite? Maybe you reach out to someone with the desire to encourage them only to end up getting annoyed and saying words that are more harmful than helpful. Or you go to the store to buy one item and walk out with an armful of things that you suddenly had to have. Or you just find yourself at the end of the day exhausted from doing so much but realizing that you haven’t done any of the things that are most important to you.
You are not alone. The Apostle Paul said, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” (Romans 7:15) We are walking contradictions. We profess our values and intentions but we can often find ourselves doing actions that run counter to those beliefs. Our natural reactions are usually either denial or despair: we refuse to believe that there is any contradiction or we are overwhelmed and beat ourselves up for it. Praise God that there is another way! Christ enters into this internal battle and gives us freedom through His Sacrifice and a pathway forward through His Spirit. Join us this Sunday as we start a mini-series through Romans chapters 7 and 8. We’ll be in Romans 7:14-8:13 with a message called “Contradicting the Contradiction.”
