“Serve and Be Served”
Jesus gathered his friends to one of the most famous meals of all time that would later be referred to as “The Last Supper”, “The Eucharist” or “Communion”. However, before he had the meal with them, he wrapped a towel around his waist, got on his knees and washed everyone’s feet. How would you respond if Jesus bent down, took off your shoes and started cleaning your toes? Most likely we would be pretty uncomfortable. The disciples did not like the idea of Jesus serving them and we probably don’t either. Sometimes it’s harder to receive than it is to give. Jesus sets the example for us as a servant leader but also teaches us that we must accept love and service so that we can give it away. This Sunday, we’ll be looking at John 13:1-17 and what it means to “Serve and be Served”.
